EU Commends the Role of Afghan Women in Science on International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The European Union in Afghanistan has expressed appreciation for the role and contributions of Afghan women and girls in the fields of science, technology, and mathematics on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
On Tuesday, the EU’s official account on the social media platform X stated that Afghan women—from nurses and midwives to researchers—play a vital role in advancing society, and their active presence is essential for a healthy and prosperous Afghanistan.
The European Union emphasized that meaningful participation of women in all scientific and technical fields is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development. This comes despite the severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration in recent years on women’s education and employment, which have greatly limited access to higher education and many specialized activities for girls and women.
International organizations have repeatedly warned that excluding women from educational and scientific arenas will have serious consequences for the country’s health, research, and development systems. Nonetheless, despite these challenges, many Afghan women continue to work in various sectors, especially in health services.
