Taliban’s Economic Commission Approves National Agriculture and Livestock Development Policy

The Economic Commission of the Taliban administration, chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the deputy economic minister, approved the National Policy for the Development of Agriculture and Livestock. In the meeting, the main objectives of this policy were outlined, including the mechanization of agriculture and livestock, strengthening agricultural, livestock, and irrigation research and extension systems, better management of irrigation networks, support for investment, and improving residents’ access to quality agricultural and animal products.

According to information released by the Deputy Economic Office, this policy aims to establish an organized framework for the sustainable growth of the agriculture and livestock sectors, which constitute a significant part of the livelihoods of the country’s population.

During the same meeting, a development plan for the fish farming sector was also approved. According to this plan, with private sector investment, 7,700 small, medium, and large fish production and farming centers will be established across 6,500 hectares of land in various regions of the country.

The source stated that implementing this plan would directly create jobs for 50,000 people and indirectly provide employment for another 250,000. If executed transparently and effectively, this initiative could significantly impact the economic conditions and livelihoods of many families.
