Macron Urges Europe to Challenge Dollar Dominance and Strengthen Financial Independence

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has called for coordinated action among European countries to reduce the dominance of the dollar in the global financial system, emphasizing that Europe must move toward establishing a joint lending mechanism.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Macron stated that the European Union must create independent financial tools to preserve its economic sovereignty. According to him, the continued excessive reliance on the dollar makes Europe vulnerable to external pressures.

The French president also addressed the tense relations with Washington, noting that in dealing with Donald Trump, the current President of the United States, he approaches the relationship with respect, but clarified that this respect should not be mistaken for weakness.

He added that the European Union is facing a U.S. administration that, in his view, takes a hostile stance toward Europe, humiliates the bloc, and shows a desire to weaken its cohesion.

Macron further warned that European leaders should not assume that disagreements with the U.S. have ended. He believes that tensions related to issues such as Greenland, technology, and trade persist and require a strategic and unified response from EU member states.
