Japan Provides $6.26 Million to Support Polio Eradication in Afghanistan

Japan has contributed $6.26 million to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support the polio eradication program in Afghanistan. The aid aims to vaccinate children under five years old across the country.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Kabul. Kenichi, the Japanese ambassador, stated that the financial assistance is provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), while UNICEF Afghanistan will be responsible for implementing the project.

According to the Japanese ambassador, the program is planned to be implemented in 34 provinces, targeting over 17 million children under the age of five for polio vaccination, as part of global efforts to completely eliminate the disease.
