Afghan Taliban’s Economy Minister Prioritizes Addressing Returnees’ Challenges

The Taliban’s Economy Minister has stated that addressing the challenges faced by returning Afghans is a primary priority for the administration, urging partner organizations to pay greater attention to this issue.

The Ministry of Economy announced that Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, during a meeting with Sean Callahan, President of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), discussed the continuation of humanitarian aid, effective strategies to combat livelihood problems, and the provision of necessary facilities for returnees.

According to Hanif, residential settlements allocated for returnees face serious shortages of public services, with access to safe drinking water, shelter, health clinics, schools, and other social services being fundamental needs in these areas.

He emphasized that partner organizations must focus more on developing public service infrastructure in returnee settlements, and through technical and vocational training and employment-generating projects, create opportunities to improve the economic and living conditions of vulnerable residents.

The Economy Minister also called on the organization to prioritize developmental projects alongside immediate humanitarian assistance.

Hanif described transparency in program implementation and maintaining balance in the development process as crucial, stressing the need for balanced execution of projects across all activities.
