Residents of Nangarhar Express Concern Over Pakistani Rupee Circulation in Some Areas

Residents of Nangarhar province say that despite the provincial police chief’s firm stance to prevent the circulation of the Pakistani rupee, this foreign currency is still being used instead of the afghani in several areas, including certain markets.

According to local people, in the Ghani Khel district, especially along the route above Marko Market and also in Momandara, Torkham, and some neighboring areas, the Pakistani rupee has been commonly used in daily transactions for many years.

Residents of these areas say using foreign currency not only harms the local economy but also weakens the position of the national currency. They emphasize that the continuation of this situation increases distrust in the implementation of official decisions.

These citizens urge the Taliban administration to go beyond merely making statements and to undertake practical and sustained measures to promote the afghani. They also call for effective oversight of markets to ensure serious enforcement of the use of the national currency.
