Former Pakistani Envoy Warns Taliban Support for Terrorism Could Have Dangerous Regional and Global Consequences

Asif Durrani, former Pakistani envoy on Afghanistan, has echoed President Asif Ali Zardari’s warnings, cautioning that the Taliban administration’s support or facilitation of terrorist groups will bring dangerous regional and global repercussions.

On Monday, 20th Dey, Durrani referred to the situation in Afghanistan, stating that terrorism thrives in regions where it is tolerated and provided with operational space. He emphasized that indifference toward this phenomenon threatens the security of neighboring countries and beyond.

In his statement, he added that allowing terrorist groups to operate from Afghan soil and using proxy forces to destabilize countries is a perilous path with heavy human and security costs. He believes such an approach affects not only the region but also the international community.

The former Pakistani representative further stated that sustainable peace requires responsibility, not denial of realities. This stance comes as Pakistan’s president also remarked yesterday that the Taliban administration has placed Afghanistan in a worse situation than before the events of September 11.
