UNAMA Reports Surge in Afghan Civilian Casualties from Pakistani Military Attacks in 2025

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported a significant rise in Afghan civilian casualties resulting from attacks by the Pakistani military in 2025. According to the latest report, a total of 613 Afghan civilians were killed or injured due to Pakistani military operations throughout the year.

This figure represents the highest number of civilian casualties attributed to Pakistan in the past fifteen years, raising serious concerns about the protection of civilians in border regions.

UNAMA further stated that in the final three months of 2025 alone, Pakistani military attacks caused the deaths of 70 civilians and injured another 478. These statistics indicate a notable escalation in the intensity of attacks toward the end of the year.

The report calls on all parties involved to clearly distinguish between civilians and military targets and to refrain from any actions that endanger civilian lives. Simultaneously, monitoring agencies emphasize that the Taliban administration holds responsibility for implementing effective and accountable measures to protect civilians in vulnerable areas.
