Taliban Responds to UNAMA Report on Civilian Casualties, Citing Pakistani Army Attacks

Hamdullah Fetrat, Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban administration, has described the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) report on civilian casualties in 2025 as confirming the current situation. According to him, at least 613 Afghan civilians have been killed or injured as a result of attacks attributed to the Pakistani army.
Fetrat stated that among the victims of these attacks were women and children, and several athletes also lost their lives. Without providing further details, he emphasized that UNAMA’s findings align with the realities on the ground.
The publication of this report once again highlights concerns regarding the protection of civilians in border areas. Despite such heavy casualties, there are expectations for the Taliban administration to take clearer and more effective measures to safeguard civilian lives and hold those responsible for these attacks accountable—a demand that has faced widespread criticism so far.
