Herat Governor Urges Increase in Rice and Oil Imports Ahead of Ramadan

The local Taliban administration in Herat has announced that with the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, increasing the import of foodstuffs, especially rice and oil, is a priority to strengthen supply in markets and facilitate easier access for residents.
Sheikh Maulana Islamjar, the governor of Herat, said in a meeting with rice and oil importers that during Ramadan, a sufficient quantity of these items must be available in the market to prevent unreasonable price hikes and ease the economic pressure on families.
He called on traders to prioritize the import of rice and oil and assured that the process of transferring these goods through the Herat-Khaf railway line, Islam Qala Customs, and the Torghundi port will be facilitated.
However, economic experts emphasize that merely increasing imports is not enough; the Taliban administration also needs to focus seriously on market monitoring, preventing hoarding, and ensuring transparency in distribution so that price reductions effectively benefit the residents.
