Afghanistan Resumes Sending Children with Heart Defects to India for Treatment After Years of Delay

The Afghan Red Crescent Society has announced that, after years of delay, the transfer process of patients with heart defects for specialized treatment abroad has resumed. In the initial phase, a number of children will be sent to India.
According to the organization, under this program, 15 children whose treatment was not possible within Afghanistan will be sent on a trial basis to India to receive specialized medical services. These patients have been diagnosed as needing treatment in well-equipped foreign centers due to the lack of advanced cardiac facilities in the country.
The Afghan Red Crescent Society also added that it currently has cooperation agreements with 11 advanced hospitals inside the country to provide primary support to patients suffering from this disease and to identify and follow up on treatable cases within Afghanistan.
Health experts have repeatedly emphasized that the lack of specialized cardiac facilities, especially for children, is one of the serious challenges facing Afghanistan’s healthcare system. This issue further underscores the urgent need for sustainable investment and wider access to advanced medical services.
