Winter Storm in Japan Kills 45, Injures Hundreds Amid Heavy Snowfall

Japanese emergency officials have reported that a winter storm accompanied by heavy snowfall across various parts of the country has so far claimed the lives of 45 people and injured nearly 600 others.
According to information provided by Japan’s Fire and Rescue Agency, 126 of the injured are in critical condition, and at least 14 houses have been completely destroyed. The agency stated that pressure on rescue teams continues.
Following the event, approximately 1,700 homes in some areas remain without power, and transportation on most railway lines has been suspended. Road closures have also made access to some affected regions difficult.
Local authorities have warned that rising temperatures and melting snow increase the risk of avalanches in certain mountainous areas. Reports indicate that many of the victims suffered accidents while shoveling snow around their homes.
According to local officials, the winter storm has left up to two meters of snow in some regions of Japan, marking one of the heaviest snowfalls in recent years.
