Kabul Cancer Hospital Doctors Strike Following Knife Attack and Security Concerns

Local sources report that doctors at Kabul’s National Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Hospital have halted their work in response to a knife attack on one of their colleagues and the inappropriate behavior of security guards.

According to these sources, on Saturday, 18th Delo, a patient’s attendant in the oncology department of the hospital attacked a doctor with a knife. The injured doctor was in critical condition and was urgently transferred to an emergency hospital for treatment.

Sources confirm that the attacker has not been arrested over time, and no clear security measures have been taken to protect healthcare staff. This situation has heightened doctors’ serious concerns about their personal safety.

It has also been reported that doctors at this health center are continuously subjected to disrespectful and humiliating treatment by the hospital gate security guards; a situation that, according to sources, has intensified under Taliban administration, and complaints so far have gone unanswered.

This comes while the National Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Hospital was inaugurated about a week ago in Kabul; a center that was expected to provide specialized services and help ease the heavy burden of cancer patients. However, insecurity and mismanagement have posed serious challenges to its operation.
