Pakistan and Uzbekistan Stress Importance of Peace in Afghanistan for Regional Stability

The Prime Minister of Pakistan and the President of Uzbekistan, during an official meeting in Islamabad, emphasized that peace and stability in Afghanistan are key factors for lasting security, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Shahbaz Sharif and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in a joint statement, underlined that Afghanistan’s stability plays a decisive role in the success of regional cooperation, and without it, major transit projects face significant challenges.

The statement noted that the successful implementation of the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan railway project is directly dependent on the security situation and political stability in Afghanistan. This project aims to enhance regional connectivity and facilitate trade between Central and South Asia.

Given its geographical position, Afghanistan serves as a crucial corridor between these two regions, and any instability in the country could delay or halt economic and transit cooperation efforts.
