Iran and US Begin Indirect Talks in Muscat on Nuclear and Sanctions Issues

Indirect talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, mediated by Oman, commenced this Friday morning in Muscat. According to released information, the primary focus of these discussions is the nuclear file and the matter of lifting sanctions.
Prior to the start of the negotiations, Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, traveled to Muscat last night at the head of a diplomatic delegation to participate in these talks. The negotiations are taking place indirectly with Oman playing a diplomatic intermediary role.
Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said in a message on X that this diplomatic interaction aims to reach a fair and mutually acceptable understanding on the nuclear issue. He emphasized that alongside considering past experiences, efforts will be made to use diplomacy to secure national interests and maintain regional stability.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, neighboring and regional countries have played a role in facilitating this process and have been appreciated. There is also hope expressed that the American side will participate with a responsible and realistic approach in these discussions.
Informed sources state that the agenda of the Muscat talks is specifically limited to matters related to the nuclear file and sanctions. Iranian officials have also stressed that issues outside this framework, including defense or regional topics, are not on the agenda of these talks.
