WHO Sends Medical Oxygen Supplies to 12 Hospitals in Kabul and 11 Provinces Across Afghanistan

The World Health Organization (WHO) has delivered shipments of medical oxygen to 12 hospitals in Kabul and health centers in 11 other provinces across Afghanistan. According to the organization, this effort plays a crucial role in improving the quality of healthcare and enhancing patient safety.
On Thursday, January 5th, WHO stated that providing oxygen to hospitals, especially during emergency situations, is vital for saving patients’ lives and can increase the capacity of healthcare workers to deliver more effective services.
WHO added that this assistance, supported by donors and international partners including UNITAID, aims to help healthcare staff offer safer and more reliable care to patients every day.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that over 14 million people in Afghanistan will require health services this year, highlighting the immense pressure on the country’s healthcare system under the current Taliban administration.
Additionally, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has reported that approximately 3.7 million children in Afghanistan suffer from acute malnutrition annually, underscoring the urgent need to continue and expand health and humanitarian aid efforts.
