UAE Releases 108 Afghan Prisoners on Its National Day, Taliban Confirms

The Taliban administration says the United Arab Emirates has released 108 Afghan prisoners from its jails in celebration of the UAE’s National Day. According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, some of these individuals have already returned to Afghanistan, while others are still in the process of repatriation.
On Thursday, 16th of Dalw, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement claiming that efforts to free Afghan prisoners held in various countries continue. However, the statement did not provide clear details about the exact number of detainees, their legal status, or how these efforts are being conducted.
The Taliban administration has also not shared further details regarding the reasons behind the arrest of these individuals in the UAE. This lack of transparency raises questions about access to information for families concerning the fate of Afghan prisoners abroad.
Previously, it was reported that around 200 Afghan prisoners were released from Pakistani jails last week and returned to the country. This underscores that the detention and release of Afghan citizens in neighboring and regional countries remains a serious ongoing challenge.
