Reconstruction of Part of Pachejo Canal Begins in Laghman

The Department of Water and Energy in Laghman has announced the start of reconstruction work on a section of the Pachejo Canal in the ‘Gabri’ area of the provincial center. According to officials, this project involves the repair and renovation of approximately 60 meters of the canal.

Mawlawi Shirjan Rashidi, head of Laghman’s Department of Water and Energy, told Bakhtar News Agency that the estimated cost of the project is around 90,000 US dollars and it is being implemented in cooperation with a partner organization. He added that the reconstruction work is expected to be completed within six months.

The Pachejo Canal in Mehtarlam originates from the Alingar River and is considered a key irrigation facility in Laghman’s center. This canal is 23 kilometers long and about six meters wide, playing a vital role in delivering water to the agricultural lands of the surrounding areas.

According to the provided information, about 9,500 jeribs of farmland are irrigated through this canal. Local residents have consistently emphasized that timely maintenance and reconstruction of such facilities are crucial for sustaining agriculture and family livelihoods. They expect the Taliban administration in Laghman to maintain transparent and continuous oversight over the project’s implementation.
