Pakistan Releases 153 Afghan Migrants from Prisons, Concerns Rise Over Detentions

The Taliban’s Department of Migrants and Returnees has announced the release of 153 Afghan migrants from prisons in Pakistan, who have entered Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak crossing.
According to a statement from the department published on Thursday, 16th Dalw, these individuals were detained between two days to approximately two months. After completing the necessary procedures, they were repatriated to their home country.
Meanwhile, reports indicate an increase in the detention of Afghan migrants by Pakistani police, raising widespread concerns among migrant families and human rights organizations.
Local sources and witnesses claim that, in some cases, Pakistani police have extorted and demanded bribes from detained migrants, allegations that have been previously reported but remain unaddressed.
Earlier, Amnesty International called on Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to halt the unlawful detention of Afghan migrants and to ensure they are treated in accordance with human rights standards.
