Nangarhar Launches Massive Tree Planting Campaign to Combat Climate Change

Officials from the Nangarhar Agriculture and Livestock Department have announced the launch of an extensive tree planting program aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and improving the province’s environment.
According to the department, approximately 4.7 million fruit-bearing and ornamental saplings will be planted across various areas of Nangarhar during the current spring season. The program focuses on increasing green cover and strengthening natural resources.
Officials emphasize that this initiative can play a significant role in curbing soil erosion, improving air quality, and creating green spaces for local residents. However, they also note that sustaining and maintaining the saplings requires organized planning and cooperation from the local community.
Operating under the Taliban administration, the Nangarhar Agriculture and Livestock Department has previously announced similar initiatives. Nonetheless, challenges such as water shortages and lack of continuous supervision have consistently hindered the success of such projects.
