Five Electricity Development Contracts Worth 710 Million Afghanis Signed

Officials from Barshna Company have announced the signing of five electricity development project contracts valued at approximately 710 million Afghanis with domestic companies. According to them, these projects are designed to improve electricity distribution capacity and address technical issues in certain areas of the country.
According to the provided information, the main part of these projects includes the construction of four new substations and resolving the overload problem of the sixth feeder in Kabul city; an issue that has caused frequent blackouts and dissatisfaction among residents of some areas in recent years. Officials say the implementation of these projects could meet part of the technical needs of Kabul’s electricity network.
Barshna Company, operating under the Taliban administration, has not provided further details regarding the start and completion dates of these projects, the exact areas of implementation, or the monitoring mechanisms for the contracts. This comes while experts consistently emphasize the importance of transparency in public interest contracts and accountability of responsible institutions.
As electricity shortages remain one of the serious economic and social challenges in Afghanistan, it is expected that responsible authorities will strengthen public trust in the execution of such projects through effective management and transparent communication.
