Kabul’s Shahr-e Naw Park Reconstruction Project Reaches 10% Completion

The Kabul Municipality, citing the Economic Deputy of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the reconstruction and development of the large Shahr-e Naw Park in Kabul, covering over 90,000 square meters, is underway with about 10 percent of the foundational work completed so far. According to the authorities, the full completion of the project is expected within a three-year timeframe.

Based on the information provided, approximately 14.3 percent of the park’s area is designated for commercial and urban service facilities. This section includes standard and underground markets, restaurants, a mosque, parking areas, a water fountain, sports and cultural sections, as well as a funeral ceremony hall.

Additionally, over 68,000 square meters of the park are allocated for green and environmental spaces, featuring ornamental shrubs, saplings, a greenhouse, an environmental protection system, a small zoo, indoor and outdoor recreational areas, a sports complex, and art and cultural galleries.

This project is presented by Kabul Municipality as part of urban development plans, aiming to provide recreational, green, and service spaces for Kabul residents—a particularly important initiative given the shortage of quality public spaces for the city’s citizens.
