Dozens Resign from Afghanistan’s Hizb-e Wahdat Led by Mohammad Mohaqiq

Dozens of members of the Hizb-e Wahdat-e Islami of the People of Afghanistan, led by Mohammad Mohaqiq, reportedly nearing 50 in number, have collectively resigned from their organizational responsibilities. In a joint statement released in the western zone of the country, these individuals cited dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership style as the reason for their decision.

The statement noted that the party leadership has not given adequate attention to the capacities and capabilities present in the western zone, which led the members to feel excluded from the decision-making process. According to them, neglect of local capacities and internal organizational weaknesses have been key factors behind this collective resignation.

The group also emphasized that given the complexities of the current situation in Afghanistan, effective and responsible service to the people requires a different approach and leadership—something they believe has not been possible under the party’s current leadership.

The resigning members have declared that they will pursue their future political activities through an independent movement and reaffirmed their commitment to humanistic, Islamic, and justice-seeking values. As of the time of this report, the leadership of Hizb-e Wahdat-e Islami of the People of Afghanistan under Mohammad Mohaqiq has not issued an official response.

In past years, several Afghan political parties and movements have experienced splits due to internal disagreements, distrust, and structural challenges, or have continued their activities under new political currents.
