Afghanistan Signs Contracts for Five Power Projects Worth 710 Million Afghanis

According to a press release from the Breshna Company, contracts for five major development projects in the electricity sector worth a total of 710 million Afghanis were signed today, Wednesday, between the company and several domestic private firms. These contracts were signed by Abdul Haq Hamkar, the Chief Executive Officer of Breshna Company.

Within the framework of these projects, the construction of a sub-station for the Barik Ab Industrial Park in Parwan province is included; the project aims to provide stable electricity for industrial activities in the area. Additionally, the construction of three other sub-stations in the districts of Qarabagh, Maqur, and Shajoy in Ghazni and Zabul provinces is planned.

According to the information provided, another project included in this package addresses the overload problem of the sixth feeder in Kabul city and aims to meet the related technical requirements—an issue that in recent years has made access to consistent electricity challenging for residents in some areas.

Despite the importance of these projects in improving electricity infrastructure, critics consistently stress that the Taliban administration should provide clearer details regarding the implementation process, monitoring mechanisms, and quality assurance for these projects to ensure that public financial resources are used effectively and accountably.
