Texas Students Walk Out to Protest US Immigration Policies

Students at several schools in central Texas staged walkouts and left school grounds on Monday to protest the policies and actions of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The protests spanned schools across multiple districts, including the Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD). According to local media reports, this protest follows demonstrations last week involving students from various Austin-area schools.
Authorities reported that several hundred students from five school districts participated in the walkouts, leaving their classrooms during instructional time without official permission. Local officials stated that these absences would be recorded as unexcused, and additional disciplinary measures could be taken if disruptive behavior occurred.
The Kyle Police Department said approximately 500 students marched toward the city center. Police confirmed that some students were arrested on charges related to disturbing the peace. No further details regarding the status of those detained have been released.
