Helmand Province Launches Its First Large Fruit Cold Storage Facility

For the first time in Helmand province, a large fruit cold storage facility has been constructed and put into operation with private sector investment and a cost of 50 million Afghanis.

Officials of this cold storage say its current capacity is 1,000 tons of fruit, and they plan to increase the storage capacity to 1,500 tons in the near future. According to them, this center can play an important role in preserving agricultural products and reducing fruit wastage during the harvest season.

Based on the provided information, this cold storage has created direct employment opportunities for at least 130 local residents. The establishment of such facilities in Helmand, one of the country’s agricultural provinces, can help improve the livelihoods of farmers.

However, economic experts emphasize that the sustainable development of such projects requires continuous support, market access, and the creation of organized agricultural infrastructure; issues that continue to face challenges due to the lack of clear policies and effective planning by the Taliban administration.
