Second Refugee Town in Zabul Opens with 5,000 Residential Plots Allocated

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations has announced the opening of the second special town for returning refugees in Zabul province, where 5,000 residential plots have been allocated to returning families.

According to information released by the ministry, the “Sheikh Mati Baba” town, covering approximately 4,330 jeribs of land in Zabul, has been put into operation. Qudratullah Badri, head of the Zabul governor’s office, stated that this town was established with the aim of providing organized settlement for returnees and meeting their basic needs.

Local officials have said that the town includes health centers, mosques, schools, religious seminaries, a Darul Uloom (Islamic educational institution), recreational parks, sports fields, and commercial centers to address some of the residents’ daily needs. It is also noted that, according to existing regulations, each returning individual is allocated one plot of land measuring five baswah.

Mawlawi Abdul Ali Jahadiar, head of Zabul’s Refugee Affairs, said efforts to address refugees’ problems in a timely manner continue, and this town can play a role in improving the living conditions of returnees.

However, as thousands of Afghan families face a shortage of services, unemployment, and livelihood difficulties after returning, it is expected that the Taliban administration will go beyond symbolic town openings and ensure sustainable access to public services, transparent land distribution, and continuous monitoring of residents’ needs.
