Taliban-Linked Institution Distributing PhD Degrees Amid Concerns Over Educational Oversight

Sources have informed media outlets that an organization called the “Abdullah bin Masoud Society,” affiliated with the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education, is distributing doctoral degrees among members of the group.

According to these sources, this institution not only issues academic certificates at the doctoral level, but also oversees the appointment of religious studies professors in educational institutions, evaluates their beliefs, and even dismisses them. This has raised concerns about ideological interference within the education system.

Information obtained indicates that the mentioned society has educational departments, a library, and classrooms for students known as “Fazilan,” operating parallel to the official higher education structure.

A certificate obtained from this organization shows that one student, after completing four semesters in the department of Fatwa and Judiciary, has entered the stage of writing a doctoral dissertation – a matter that raises serious questions about the quality, duration, and accreditation of these programs.

However, it remains unclear under what scientific and educational criteria this institution issues doctoral certificates, and the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education has yet to provide an official explanation. This ambiguity challenges the legitimacy of these degrees and the future of the country’s educational system.
