255 Afghan Migrants Released from Pakistani Prisons and Returned to Afghanistan

The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations announced that 255 Afghan migrants were released from prisons in Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan during the current week.

According to a statement published by the ministry on Thursday, 29 January, these individuals entered Afghanistan via the Spin Boldak border crossing and were transferred to their home regions after undergoing initial processing.

The ministry stated that the detention periods for these migrants varied, ranging from two days to two months in Pakistani prisons. No further details were provided regarding the reasons for their detention or the conditions of their imprisonment.

This development comes amid a rise in arrests and deportations of Afghan migrants in Pakistan in recent months. Critics argue that the Taliban administration has so far failed to establish an effective legal and diplomatic framework to protect the rights of Afghan citizens in neighboring countries.
