Islamabad Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi

A court in Islamabad has issued an arrest warrant for Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The decision came after Afridi failed to appear at the hearing despite an official summons.

The case relates to statements made by Afridi in November 2025, in which he claimed that security forces had brought dogs into mosques in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Judicial authorities have deemed these remarks misleading and are investigating them as allegations of tarnishing the reputation of government institutions.

Abbas Shah, the judge presiding over the case, stated that Afridi’s absence in court led to the issuance of the arrest warrant. According to him, the court was compelled to take this step to ensure Afridi’s presence during the legal process.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for February 10. The case has garnered widespread attention across Pakistan, drawing political and legal circles’ focus on the accountability of high-ranking officials.
