Nearly 700,000 Metric Tons of Goods Transported via Afghanistan’s Railways in One Month

Afghanistan’s Taliban Ministry of Public Works has reported that in the past month, a total of 699,820 metric tons of goods were transported through the country’s railway lines. This data indicates that the railway remains one of the key trade transit routes in Afghanistan.
According to Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the ministry’s spokesperson, the largest volume of goods was transferred through the Hairatan port, accounting for 466,328 metric tons. Additionally, 55,287 metric tons were moved via Aqina port, 87,042 metric tons through Turghundi port, and 91,163 metric tons along the Khaf-Herat route.
The reported shipments included petroleum products, non-petroleum goods, and various other commercial materials, covering both imports and exports. Among these figures, exports accounted for 1,025 metric tons in the last month.
The Ministry of Public Works spokesperson stated that the majority of exported goods were dried fruits and pomegranate juice. He believes that increasing the use of railways for commercial transport can help create job opportunities, boost national revenue, and contribute to economic stability and self-sufficiency.
