UAE Company Commits to Produce 1,000 MW of Gas-Powered Electricity in Afghanistan

A United Arab Emirates company has announced plans to invest in producing 1,000 megawatts of electricity from gas resources in Afghanistan, a project that could help alleviate part of the country’s electricity shortage.

Tankot Dashd Mir, head of the UAE-based H.H.M group of companies, discussed this plan during a meeting with Abdul Haq Hamkar, CEO of the Afghan electricity company (Breshna), confirming the company’s readiness to actively participate in power generation projects.

During the meeting, Abdul Haq Hamkar welcomed the proposal, stating that the Taliban administration supports investment in the energy sector and is working to create the necessary conditions for secure investment in electricity production.

Afghanistan has faced severe electricity shortages in recent years, with a large portion of its energy needs met through imports. This situation has increased foreign investors’ interest in domestic resources, especially natural gas.
