Trump Vows Strong Stance on Detention of American Citizen Held by Taliban

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has stated that his administration will take a “very strong stance” regarding the detention of Dennis Quail, an American citizen currently held in a Taliban-run prison. CBS News reported that Dennis Quail, a 64-year-old university professor and resident of Colorado, was arrested on January 26, 2025, from his apartment in Kabul by Taliban forces. According to his family, Quail remains in custody without any formal charges being brought against him. Reports indicate that Dennis Quail is being held at the General Directorate of Intelligence of the Taliban administration, an agency frequently criticized by human rights organizations for arbitrary detentions and lack of transparency in legal processes. Last week, Trump, speaking to reporters without providing further details, emphasized that the detention of American citizens by the Taliban is unacceptable and that the U.S. government would pursue the matter seriously. These remarks come as Quail’s family and human rights groups call for clarity regarding his legal status and access to a fair judicial process.
