Taliban Requests Red Cross Assistance for Female Prisoners’ Welfare

The Taliban’s Prison Affairs Department has announced that the representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan met with the department’s deputy in Kabul to discuss the situation of prisoners, especially women. According to the statement, Mohammad Bilal Fateh, Deputy of Policy and Professional Affairs at the Prison Department, requested Sylvia Iso, the ICRC representative, to collaborate in areas such as providing adequate nutrition, supplying equipment and healthcare facilities, hiring specialist doctors, and preparing educational materials for female prisoners. The Taliban administration also expressed its desire for the international organization’s support in supplying essential health-related items and necessities for female inmates, an issue which has become a serious concern for human rights organizations in recent years. The statement from the Taliban’s department noted that the ICRC delegation promised cooperation in these areas, although details, timelines, and the practical mechanisms for this cooperation have yet to be clarified.
