Taliban Administration in Panjshir Sells 3,835 Carats of Emeralds Worth $90,110

The Taliban administration office in Panjshir province has announced the sale of 3,835 carats of emeralds extracted from the province’s mines, valued at $90,110.
According to Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the Taliban governor of Panjshir, this amount of emeralds was handed over to domestic traders on Tuesday, the 7th of Dalw, through a bidding process. Local officials emphasized that the sale was conducted under the supervision of the local administration.
Based on provided information, these emeralds were extracted over the past two weeks from the mines in the first district of Panjshir. Panjshir is recognized as one of Afghanistan’s provinces rich in valuable emerald mines.
At the same time, the lack of public transparency regarding the management of mining revenues and the utilization of the income generated has raised concerns among residents and economic observers—an issue that once again highlights questions about the Taliban administration’s accountability in managing the country’s natural resources.
