Salang Pass Reopened to Passenger Vehicles After Snowstorm Closure

The Taliban’s Public Works Department has announced that the Salang Pass, one of Afghanistan’s vital transit routes, was reopened to passenger vehicles on Tuesday, the 7th of Dalw. Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the spokesperson for the department, stated that passenger vehicle traffic has resumed on this route and that efforts to maintain smooth transit are ongoing. The Salang Pass had been closed since the morning of last Wednesday due to heavy snowfall and a storm, causing several days of disrupted travel between the northern and central provinces. As one of Afghanistan’s most important communication highways, the Salang Pass’s closure, especially during the winter season, consistently poses significant challenges for residents, goods transport, and access to services.
