Global Coalition Launched to Ensure Governments Honor Commitments to Afghan Allies

The organizations Afghan EVAC and Local Staff International have announced the launch of a global coalition aimed at holding allied governments accountable for fulfilling their commitments to Afghan collaborators and their families. This initiative was formally introduced on the evening of Monday, January 26.
In a joint statement, the two entities noted that following the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan, thousands of Afghan collaborators remain stranded in third countries. These individuals lack both sustainable legal protection and the possibility of reuniting with their families.
According to the statement, the legal pathways established for the protection and resettlement of Afghan collaborators have either been halted or implemented irregularly and incompletely. This situation has raised serious concerns about the legal security and future of these individuals.
Afghan EVAC and Local Staff International emphasized that governments must provide transparency, ongoing follow-up, and clear legal guarantees regarding these collaborators. The organizations stressed that the conclusion of a mission is only meaningful when all promises have been fulfilled, not when the issue ceases to be a political priority.
The two organizations also called on other civil society groups to join this coalition to cooperate in coordinating efforts, exchanging information, and monitoring the implementation of governments’ commitments at the international level.
