UNRWA Declares Gaza the Deadliest Place in the World for Journalists

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has declared Gaza the deadliest place in the world for journalists due to an unprecedented number of casualties, severely undermining free access to information.

On Sunday, January 25, the agency posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) page that journalists have courageously covered the realities of the Gaza war under extremely difficult conditions. However, more than 230 journalists have lost their lives so far.

UNRWA added that the dangers are not limited to journalists alone; humanitarian workers in Gaza are also facing serious threats and have paid a heavy price during this conflict.

The organization criticized the ban on international journalists entering Gaza, warning that the continuation of these restrictions contributes to the spread of misinformation and the formation of polarized narratives, preventing the world from obtaining firsthand information about the humanitarian situation in the region.

UNRWA emphasized that the ban has lasted “far too long” and urgently called for its immediate revocation to ensure media freedom and provide an accurate and independent account of the humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
