UN OCHA Allocates $14 Million to Combat Drought in Afghanistan

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced the allocation of $14 million to prevent and mitigate the impacts of drought in Afghanistan in 2025. These funds have supported more than 780,000 people across various regions.
According to OCHA, this aid package includes cash assistance, provision of clean water, healthcare services, and shelter for vulnerable families who have faced severe livelihood losses due to drought.
OCHA’s report emphasizes that Afghanistan is among the countries most affected by climate change. About 80% of rural families depend on agriculture for survival, but reduced and erratic rainfall has destroyed crops and worsened food insecurity.
Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that the ongoing climate crisis, coupled with economic constraints and weak governance under the Taliban administration, has put millions of Afghan residents at serious risk of losing access to essential resources, underscoring the urgent need for a sustainable and transparent response.
