Taliban Court Orders Flogging of at Least 36 People in Khost Province

The Supreme Court of the Taliban administration announced that on Monday, 26th of Dalw, at least 36 individuals were publicly flogged in Khost Province. According to the statement, each person received between 10 and 39 lashes and was sentenced to one to two years of imprisonment.

In a bulletin published by the authority, it was stated that the primary court of the Taliban administration in Khost punished these individuals after reviewing their cases. The charges included drug trafficking, extramarital relations, and homosexual acts between men.

Public corporal punishment is part of the judicial practices implemented by the Taliban administration, which has been extensively applied in several provinces of Afghanistan since their return to power. These actions have consistently drawn negative reactions from human rights organizations.

Critics argue that such punishments, especially public flogging, violate human dignity and principles of fair trial, increasing concerns about the human rights situation in the country. The Taliban administration has so far not provided a transparent response to these issues.
