EU Backs Renewable Energy Projects, Especially Solar, in Afghanistan Amid Climate Crisis

The European Union Delegation to Afghanistan announced that, in observance of World Clean Energy Day, it is supporting several renewable energy projects in the country, with a particular focus on solar power.
In a statement on Monday, 25 January, the delegation emphasized that given the climate crisis and its consequences, strengthening sustainable solutions through solar energy remains a priority within the EU’s support programs.
Based on global assessments, Afghanistan is among the top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change and has faced widespread drought for four consecutive years. This situation has made access to electricity and clean water increasingly difficult for millions of residents.
Meanwhile, various United Nations agencies have also utilized solar energy over the past year to generate electricity and provide drinking water in several Afghan provinces. These efforts have played a crucial role in alleviating pressure on local communities amid the absence of sustainable energy infrastructure.
