UN Deputy Secretary-General Meets with Iran’s Ambassador in Kabul Amid Ongoing Afghan Political Efforts

Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs, met with Ali Reza Beikdeli, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Afghanistan, in Kabul on Sunday during the second day of her visit. According to a statement from the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, the meeting focused on reviewing the activities of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and related cooperation with this entity.
The meeting took place at the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, and so far, no further official details about the discussions have been released. United Nations sources have also not provided additional comments on the matter.
Ms. DiCarlo arrived in Kabul on Saturday, coinciding with International Education Day; her trip continues the UN’s ongoing efforts to monitor political and humanitarian developments in Afghanistan.
Earlier, Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that the purpose of this visit was to follow up on the Doha process and to engage in discussions about the situation in Afghanistan with relevant parties. This process is being seriously pursued by international organizations, considering the current limitations and challenges in the country.
