Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Snow and Rain in 21 Provinces of Afghanistan

The Meteorological Department under the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has forecasted heavy snowfall, rain, and strong winds across 21 provinces and urged citizens to exercise caution.

According to a statement released by the department on Sunday, January 24, these weather conditions are expected tomorrow in the provinces of Nuristan, Kunar, Baghlan, Parwan, Logar, Paktika, Paktia, Maidan Wardak, Bamyan, Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan, Daikundi, Ghor, Kandahar, Helmand, Nimroz, Farah, Herat, Badghis, and Faryab, including the Salang Pass areas.

The forecast indicates rainfall amounts ranging from 10 to 40 millimeters in various locations, with snow accumulation expected to reach 10 to 40 centimeters in some regions.

Additionally, the likelihood of strong winds has been reported in central and southern provinces, including the Salang Pass area, with wind speeds predicted between 50 and 95 kilometers per hour in different locations.

The Meteorological Department has also cautioned about the potential for flooding in lowland areas.

These warnings come as the Salang highway has remained closed for five days due to heavy snowfall, disrupting travel and hindering residents’ access to essential services.
