Spain Calls for a Unified European Army to Strengthen Security Independence

Amid escalating political tensions between the United States and some European countries, Spain’s Foreign Minister has called for the establishment of a joint army within the framework of the European Union, describing it as a step toward strengthening the EU’s security independence.

José Manuel Álvarez made these remarks on Wednesday evening after meeting with his Indian counterpart in New Delhi. He emphasized that a coordinated military force could be more effective than the separate activities of the 27 national armies of the member states.

According to Álvarez, the proposal is not intended to replace NATO but to create an independent capacity to better respond to Europe’s security challenges.

Without naming Donald Trump, the current President of the United States, Spain’s Foreign Minister asserted that Europe should not become an arena subject to political and economic pressures and extortion.
