Former Afghan Finance Minister Says No Safe Environment for Investment in Afghanistan

Anwarul Haq Ahadi, the former Finance Minister of Afghanistan, has stated that under the current circumstances, the necessary conditions for domestic and foreign investment in the country do not exist, and investors face a lack of legal protections and frameworks.

In an interview with media outlets, Mr. Ahadi said that under Taliban rule, there are neither clear nor enforceable laws to support investment, nor do professional and economic experts play an effective role within government administrative structures. According to him, many specialists have been sidelined from the decision-making process.

The former Finance Minister emphasized that investors will not commit significant capital without guarantees of legal security and confidence in regulatory stability. He added that currently, the country’s economic environment is unpredictable, which significantly raises investment risks.

Although some small economic projects are being implemented in various areas, Ahadi stated that these efforts cannot be considered signs of a sustainable economic recovery. He described Afghanistan’s economic outlook as negative and attributed the responsibility for this situation to the policies and actions of the Taliban administration.
