Trump Tells European Leaders at Davos: Without America, You Would Be Speaking German

Donald Trump, President of the United States, told European Union leaders in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos that if America had not intervened in World War II, people in Europe would be speaking German and “perhaps a bit of Japanese” today.

Trump continued with a critical tone amid rising tensions over Greenland, claiming that European countries are “destroying themselves” and harshly criticized the leadership of these nations.

Referring to the situation with Greenland, he stated that the United States returned the territory to Denmark after World War II and considered that decision a mistake. According to him, Denmark has since adopted an “ungrateful” approach toward the United States.

The U.S. president also announced that he is seeking to start immediate negotiations regarding the acquisition of Greenland by the United States—a topic that has triggered widespread reactions in Europe in recent months.

Trump further emphasized that, compared to previous U.S. presidents, he has provided the most support to NATO and described Washington’s role in backing the military alliance as decisive.
