Salang Pass Closed Due to Heavy Snowstorm and Poor Visibility

Salang Pass has been completely closed to all vehicles since 5:20 AM on Wednesday, January 22, due to heavy snowfall, storms, and limited visibility. The Public Works Directorate under the Taliban administration announced in a statement that this closure is temporary. Technical teams from the directorate are currently present on-site to clear the route and reopen the pass.
The statement urged citizens to avoid traveling towards Salang until further notice and to postpone their trips to a more suitable time.
According to the directorate, weather forecasts indicate that snow and storms will continue in the Salang area until Thursday, a situation that may delay the reopening of this vital route connecting northern and central Afghanistan.
