China Urges Taliban to Ensure Safety of Its Citizens Following Kabul Hotel Blast

Following an explosion at a hotel housing Chinese citizens in Kabul, the Chinese government has called on the Taliban administration to take serious responsibility for the security of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in Afghanistan.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday, January 19, at a press conference that this request has been officially conveyed to the Taliban authorities. Beijing expects immediate and effective measures to be taken to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

According to the ministry, one Chinese citizen was killed and five others were injured as a result of the blast. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged the Taliban to fully and responsibly oversee the treatment of those wounded in the incident.

This event has once again raised questions and concerns about the security situation in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s ability to protect diplomats, investors, and foreign citizens—a challenge that several countries have highlighted as serious in recent months.
