US Senator Claims Washington Plans Regime Changes in Latin America

A Republican US senator has stated that Washington is pursuing plans to change political regimes in several Latin American countries, including Cuba, Nicaragua, and Colombia.
Rick Scott, a member of the US Senate, told Fox News that he believes “Cuba will be reformed, Nicaragua will be stabilized, and a new president will take office in Colombia next year.” He described these developments as part of the United States’ future approach in the region.
The senator also claimed that the arrest of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela could trigger broader changes; changes that, according to him, would not be limited to Venezuela but would encompass all of Latin America.
These comments come as the administration of Donald Trump, the current President of the United States, has repeatedly referred to Latin America as Washington’s “backyard.” This approach has faced serious criticism over alleged interventionism, political pressure, and military threats against independent countries in the region, raising concerns about violations of national sovereignty.
