Pakistan Affirms Active Diplomatic Channels with Afghanistan Despite Tensions

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that despite ongoing tensions, diplomatic channels between Islamabad and Kabul remain active and communication between the two neighboring countries continues. This stance was expressed during a weekly press conference in Islamabad on Thursday.

Tahir Hussain Andarabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized that his country does not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs but stated that the use of Afghan territory for terrorist activities is Pakistan’s primary concern. He asserted that Islamabad seeks “written, verifiable, and practical” guarantees from the ruling authorities in Kabul to dismantle terrorist groups.

According to Andarabi, without these specific commitments, resolving the issue of terrorism will not be possible. Should this concern be addressed, it would pave the way for a significant improvement in bilateral relations, as he noted that the two countries have no major other disputes. These remarks come amid repeated Taliban administration denials of Pakistan’s claims, with the Taliban stating Afghan soil will not be used against any country.

Relations between Kabul and Islamabad sharply deteriorated following one of the most severe military confrontations in October 2025. Despite a ceasefire announced on October 19, trade between the two sides has yet to resume. Observers say that ongoing insecurity and a lack of transparent accountability from the Taliban administration remain major obstacles to rebuilding trust and sustainable cooperation in the region.
